Dumbarton Oaks

In June 2014, The Image Collections and Fieldwork Archives (ICFA) of Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection announced the release of its AtoM Finding Aid Style Guide. "Developed by ICFA staff to document local practices for internal reference and training, the Guide addresses all aspects of description: from collection-level details such as creation and acquisition information to providing file-specific storage locations. In addition, there are sections on developing an intellectual arrangement and devising titles for each record group in a collection.

"In advance of the department’s conversion of their legacy finding aids, ICFA staff also produced a workflow to help guide staff to the system. The Workflow provides step-by-step instructions on how to develop new collections in ICA-AtoM based on existing Word finding aids, and is intended to be used in conjunction with the Guide, a more comprehensive reference resource for description."

University of Witwatersrand, South Africa 3-Day AtoM 2.0 Workshop

In October 2013, a 3-Day AtoM workshop was conducted in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Hosted by the University of Witwatersrand and organized by Michele Pickover and Gabriele Mohale, the 3-day workshop had over 30 participants from 16 different institutions, including the University of Namibia, Desmond Tutu Peace Centre, and the National Archives. The workshop was aimed at introducing and exploring AtoM 2.0 as a multi-lingual open-source application for online archival description and arrangement in single and multi-institutional portals. Training on AtoM was provided for all participants and addressed the features and functions of the software for public users, archivists and administrators. The workshop materials were created using copies of archival records held by organizations all over Ontario, which were generously supplied by the Archives Association of Ontario. The archival records are available through ARCHEION. You are free to use the manuals for your own purposes.

Archives Society of Alberta (ASA) Workshop Tutorials (ICA-AtoM 1.3)

In February 2013, two ICA-AtoM workshops were conducted in Edmonton, Alberta.

On Sunday, Feb.24 an ICa-AtoM Administrator Workshop was held with Carrie Lunde, Database Administrator at Archives Society of Alberta and Rene Georgopalis, Executive Director / Archives Advisor at Archives Society of Alberta. The workshop materials for this Administrator Session focused on features and functionality in ICA-AtoM 1.3 that support the Administration of the ASA online Portal. The workshop materials were created using copies of archival records held in the Archives Society of Alberta database, but are no-longer available for interaction. You are free to use the manuals for your own purposes.

On Monday, Feb.25 an ICA-AtoM Authorized User Workshop was held and eight ASA members attended. The workshop materials for this Authorized User Session focused on features and functionality in ICA-AtoM 1.3 that support Archival activities of archival description. The workshop materials were created using copies of archival records held in the Archives Society of Alberta database, but are no-longer available for interaction. You are free to use the manuals for your own purposes.

Archives Association of Ontario (AAO) Training Materials (ICA-AtoM 1.2)

In March 2012, Amanda Hill, the Archeion Coordinator presented a workshop on the re-launch of Archeion, Ontario's online gateway to archives, using ICA-AtoM software. AAO has graciously agreed to share their Workshop Slide Presentation: Archeion Slideshare and their training booklet in FRENCH and ENGLISH!

CARBICA Tutorial (ICA-AtoM 1.1)

In August 2011 a two-day training workshop on ICA-AtoM 1.1 was presented in Curaçao and attended by members of the ICA's Caribbean section (CARBICA). In preparation for the workshop a demo version of ICA-AtoM was created using copies of archival records held by the Rare Books and Special Collections (RBSC) at the University of British Columbia Library. To encourage learning and support new users in their discovery of ICA-AtoM open-source software for archival description, a CARBICA training manual with 10 tutorials was created. The tutorials in the booklet allow users to interact with the data in the CARBICA demo version of ICA-AtoM.

Anyone is free to download the workshop materials and complete the tutorial on their own or adapt it for use in other projects.

  • Step Three - Restart your computer with the DVD inserted. Computers running Mac platform require the user to hold "C" key during boot.

CARBICA LiveDVD Demo Troubleshooting

During data entry into ICA-AtoM, if you encounter a white screen after clicking the EDIT button:

  • Change section of URL from "index.php" to "qubit_dev.php" and hit return. This should fix the white screen and allow you to continue data entry
  • It may be necessary to make this switch from time to time
  • This is most likely due to a segmentation fault caused by issue 1995 which does not affect all users

MemoryBC Tutorial (ICA-AtoM 1.1)

MemoryBC.ca provides access to descriptions of archival materials held in repositories throughout the province of British Columbia, Canada. The site is run using ICA-AtoM and managed by the Archives Association of British Columbia (AABC). The AABC allows its institutional members to add and edit their archival descriptions in the MemoryBC portal. This tutorial is used in workshops held throughout the province to prepare users for data-entry.

Anyone is free to download the workshop material and complete the tutorial on their own or adapt it for use in other projects.

Dumbarton Oaks' AtoM@DO Help/About page (ICA-AtoM 1.3)

Rich with both general information and details on how to perform basic public user functions in ICA-AtoM (such as using search, advanced search, printing file reports, exporting, etc.) the AtoM@DO Help page is a useful resource, and a good model for how institutions using AtoM can supply helpful information to support the needs of their users.
